This exhibition presents a sampling of works created by Stuart Gosswein over the past 50 years. He has lived in Washington, DC since 1977, having moved here from Chicago to attend graduate school. He is a painter and sculptor. His subject matter ranges from representational work (figurative, portraiture, landscape, religious/mythological, etc.) to abstract work.

The following describes some of the works in the show. Stuart began painting self-portraits when he was a teenager, inspired by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and other artists who pursued self-examination. The exhibit includes images of a young, middle-aged, and older artist. The show also includes portraits of people he met while traveling through Central America. The artist also frequently works in series. Subjects include horses, tornadoes, the Sierras, and apples.

Stuart has a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from George Washington University. He has an art studio

The full exhibition will remain on view from July 10 through September 26 at Stuart Gosswein’s studio at F St Arts located in Carroll Square at 923 F Street, Studio 202, Washington, DC.
